Public Librarian Graduate Certificate

The Master of Library Science (MLS) Public Librarian certificate program is designed to serve as an add-on for students enrolled in MLS 465_B School Libraries as well as any students with a completed MLS from Appalachian or elsewhere who wish to add a focus area in public libraries to their education.

  • Current enrollment in the MLS program or completion of an MLS or equivalent degree.

Completion requirements:

  • Total Required hours: 15sh
  • Courses open only to graduate students

  • LIB 5300: Readers Advisory (3)
  • LIB 5020: Information Sources and Services (3)
  • LIB 5340: Leadership in Information Organizations (3)

Elective Courses (3 Hours)--Choose 1

  • LIB 5195: Critical Issues in Literature and Media for Youth (3)
  • LIB 5160: Critical Evaluation of Library Media for Teens (3)
  • LIB 5150: Library Services to Youth (3)
  • Or other course approved by advisor
